No Rain

At Rev. 11:5-6 we read of the two witnesses (Rev. 11:3);

"5 And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner. 6 These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire."

According to the "Revelation Climax" book 2006 printing, pages 165-166 shown below, 

those trying to harm the two witnesses, are interpreted as other religious organizations claiming to be Christian (termed by Watchtower as "Christendom").

The "fire from heaven" is claimed to be a 4-page Watchtower publication called "Kingdom News" along with other publications which would "expose Christendom's spiritually defunct condition". The drought caused by a lack of rain is interpreted to mean that the Jehovah's Witness organization exposes the "spiritual drought" of those other churches, meaning, a lack of spiritual waters.

 

Although some scriptures are offered to support the role of Moses and Elijah, fulfilled by the two witnesses; none of the scriptures provide the exact interpretations offered...

Specifically,

- that those seeking to harm the two witnesses are the churches of Christendom

- that the fire from heaven consists of Watchtower publications, notably "Kingdom News"

- that heaven being shut and the lack of rain, is the Watchtower's unveiling of a lack of spiritual waters available in other religions.

What I desire to publish in this post, is what the scriptures reveal as to the interpretation of Rev. 11:6 as I ask you to focus your attention on that verse's phrases, "These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls during the days of their prophesying".

As readers of this blog know, I always strive to offer scriptures for interpretation. The source of interpretative doctrine belongs to God (Gen. 40:8). This is the example of Jesus (John 12:49) and he should be our guide (John 16:13; 8:47).
So, lets take a tour of scripture to see what God's Word has to say about heaven being shut up, so that no rain falls. 

(Italicized and bold words are the scripture)(Words in brackets are mine)

Deut. 11:17 "Then the Lord’s anger will burn against you, and he will shut up the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the Lord is giving you." (God promised the good land to His own people)

1Kings 8:35 "

“When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your (God's) people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place (God's temple) and give praise to your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them..."

2Chron.7: "11 When Solomon had finished the temple of the Lord and the royal palace, and had succeeded in carrying out all he had in mind to do in the temple of the Lord and in his own palace, 12 the Lord appeared to him at night and said:

“I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices.

13 When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (remember Mal. 4:2)

What we learn from God's Word...

(Rom. 3:4; Matt. 15:9; 

1Cor. 1:25)

...is that when the heaven is shut so that no rain falls, it is because God's own people are being disciplined by God. Such discipline arrives due to their wickedness.

What does it mean that heaven is shut, or opened?
Heaven is the source of God's gifts 

(James 1:17; John 4:10;

1Cor. 14:1,12,37; 12:4; 1:7; 2:10; Mal. 3:10). 

When heaven is opened, spiritual gifts of divine wisdom and understanding are offered to the humble and righteous (Heb. 6:4). This happened to the apostle John when he was graced with the scroll of Revelation (Rev. 4:1; 1:19). The two witnesses also have heaven opened to them (Rev. 11:12) as did Stephen (Acts 7:56).

Eze. 1:1; Matt. 3:16; Isa. 11:2

When the heavens are shut, access to divine spirit and truth is blocked.

We are told at Rev. 3:7-8...

"These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. 8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name."

Jesus has the power to open the minds of the faithful to heavenly truth (Luke 24:45; Col. 2:2-3). 
Jesus spoke of this ability to bestow wisdom, 

at Matthew chapter 13:

"11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;

    though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:

“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;

    you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.

15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;

    they hardly hear with their ears,

    and they have closed their eyes.

Otherwise they might see with their eyes,

    hear with their ears,

    understand with their hearts

and turn (repent), and I would heal* them.’

16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 

35 So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:

“I will open my mouth in parables,

    I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”

The "hidden" sacred secrets are opened by Jesus, who holds the authority and power over those symbolic keys. He can open perception of divine secrets (John 1:51; 3:34-35; Col. 2:2-3).

As we can see from scripture, the symbolic opening of heaven is associated with symbolic rain.

Deut. 28:12;  Ps. 78:23;  Mal. 3:10

At Isaiah 45:8, we learn more about the meaning of rain...

  “Rain down, you heavens, from above, And let the skies pour down righteousness; Let the earth open, let them bring forth salvation, And let righteousness spring up together. I, the Lord, have created it."

So, just as we see the sky, clouds, and rain are all associated with one another in a literal way;

being blessed and granted to have divine wisdom is associated with and even vital for, having righteousness and salvation. 

Our eternal life depends upon our salvation, through divine wisdom (John 17:3,17). That wisdom and spirit, are found in God's Word (Prov. 2:6; Ps. 119:105,130; James 1:5; Eph. 6:17; Heb. 4:12). Holy Spirit is the source of these things. Spirit is found... not in teaching sourced with men, but in the teachings of Jesus Christ (John 6:63).

If God's own wicked people repentantly return to Him, He can change the thirsty ground of the heart (Matt. 5:6; Isa. 55:1-3; Rev. 22:17).

Isa. 35:

"6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer,

And the tongue of the dumb sing.

For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness,

And streams in the desert.

7 The parched ground shall become a pool,

And the thirsty land springs of water;

In the habitation of jackals, where each lay,

There shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

8 A highway shall be there, and a road,

And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness.

The unclean shall not pass over it,

But it shall be for others.

Whoever walks the road, although a fool,

Shall not go astray.

9 No lion shall be there,

Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it;

It shall not be found there.

But the redeemed shall walk there,

10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return,

And come to Zion with singing,

With everlasting joy on their heads.

They shall obtain joy and gladness,

And sorrow and sighing shall flee away."

 

Rev. 11:6 is telling us, that within the scenario of Revelation,

it is not "Christendom" that gets exposed for a lack of holy spirit, righteousness, and teachings of salvation. It is God's own people, in the time of the end.

Is Jesus the Capstone of Zechariah, chapter 4?

QUESTION:

With Christ being the first and last at Revelation 1:17, (and the root and the offspring at Revelation 22:16) do you think he is both the cornerstone and also the capstone at Zechariah 4:7?

MY REPLY:

Zech.4 explains who the capstone is. I will highlight points that this chapter makes, with some scriptures to unlock those points. The scripture verses will be in bold black.

Zech.4:

1 Then the angel who talked with me returned and woke me up, like someone awakened from sleep. 

    [The 'waking up', is prophetic (Rev.3:2 ESV Matt.25:5-6,7)]

2 He asked me, ‘What do you see?’ I answered, ‘I see a solid gold lampstand 

    (Rev.1:20; Matt.5:15 -a congregation/house) 

with a bowl at the top 

    [a heart that pours out testimony/a star or angel/prophet, sent to that congregation (Rev.16:1; Luke 6:45)]  

and seven lamps on it (Rev.4:5 NKJV -the spirit/insight of prophets), 

with seven channels to the lamps (seven channels pouring oil/spirit to the seven lamps)

    (The testimony by spirit/oil from that bowl, is feeding the light of the 7 lamps/prophets). 

    [The reason why there are both one and seven, is because the 4th living creature/7th prophet, 

     contains the spirit/prophetic insight, given to all seven (Rev.15:7; 17:1; 21:9) 

     as well as perceiving their fulfillment. By the pouring out of his own heart/bowl/censer (Rev.8:5), 

     he enables the prophets to be heard again (Rev.8:2,5; Isa.58:1; 41:27; 40:9). 

     Through the prophets being heard once again; God's condemnation is unveiled 

     (Rev.8:5; Eze.13:13; Joel 3:16). 

     The 7th angel is the messenger/angel of the covenant (Rev.10:1; Gen.9:13 NKJV Mal.3:1), 

     sent ahead of Christ in the time of the end/Revelation's fulfillment 

    (Rev.22:10; 10:7)(Matt.3:1-2,3; Luke 1:16-17,76-77; Isa.57:14; 62:10-11; 49:11; Matt.24:16,15)

    (Matt.17:3,12-13,11)]. "Elijah" had a spirit from God that differed from common prophets (Matt.11:9). 

     That spirit/role was filled by John the Baptist. That spirit/role will arrive again in the time of the end, 

     to "restore all things" (Matt.17:11).

3 Also there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left.’ (Rev.11:4).

4 I asked the angel who talked with me, ‘What are these, my lord?’

6 So he said to me, ‘This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty.

7 ‘What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground.

...the capstone to shouts of “God bless it! God bless it!”’ 

    [That mighty mountain to be destroyed and replaced with Zion, is "Babylon's" last daughter, 

     or last head of the beast (Rev.17:9; Rev.8:8; Jer.51:24-25,29), which is brought down 

     by the faith of the capstone (Mark 11:22-23) by the spirit it is given]

8 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 

9 ‘The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. 

    [Who does Zerubbabel represent? Who is the one who lays the foundation of the spiritual temple 

     (1Cor.3:16;  1Pet.2:5,9)? (John 2:19,21;  1Cor.12:27)

     (Rev.21:14; Matt.16:18; John 6:70; 15:16; Eph.2:20-21,22).

     Zerubbabel (meaning "against Babylon/against confusion") is Jesus Christ. 

     God set him as the cornerstone, 

     upon which the whole building rests (Isa.28:16; Matt.21:42,44).

Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. 

    (John 16:7-8,13-14,15; Rev.5:7; 10:1-2,3; Rev.22:16,6)

10 ‘Who dares despise the day of small things?

      [(Zech.4:10; Amos 7:1-2,7-8; Rev.13:10)>remember that "plumb line" is synonymous with capstone)(Zech.4:10 NKJV Zech.4:10 NIV )], 

These seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth, will rejoice 

when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel.’ 

      [The 7 eyes are also the 7 spirits/lamps (Matt.6:22; Rev.5:6; 4:5)... the prophets that are 

       sent into all the 'earth'. The prophets have longed to understand what they were inspired to record, 

       and at the time of the capstone, they rejoice that their words are then, opened 

      (Dan.12:4; Rev.10:4,7; 22:10,6-7; 10:7).]

11 Then I asked the angel, ‘What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?’

12 Again I asked him, ‘What are these two olive branches beside the two gold pipes that pour out golden oil?’ 

       [The branches of the two olive trees are pouring out spirit from the trees, through themselves. 

        They are supplying the oil that fills the bowl, and the bowl is supplying the seven lamps 

        with oil/spirit/light. That bowl/censer (Rev.5:8), is the same one at Rev.8:3]

13 He replied, ‘Do you not know what these are?’ 'No, my lord,’ I said.

14 So he said, ‘These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.’ (Matt.17:3).

The capstone/plumbline, and the two witnesses, are working together as one, which is why they are put in the same vision, and depicted as connected in their activity.

(Isa.28:17; John 16:8; Eze.40:3; Amos 7:7-8;  2Kings21:13; Rev.11:1-2; 10:11)

(Rev.3:17-18; Zech.13:9; Rev.9:18; Mark 8:35; Rev.21:15,27)

The two witnesses, supply spirit and truth to the one golden bowl (heart) (Zech.4:3,12),

and the one golden bowl (capstone/plumbline), provides the spirit/fuel of light, to ignite seven lamps/prophets (Rev.15:7; Zech.4:2,7), 

as well as it's own congregation/lampstand (Zech.4:2; Matt.5:15).

The two witnesses of truth (John 8:17) can manifest themselves in any who represent them, 

including their lampstands/congregations (Rev.11:4; 1:20).

The two witnesses/plumbline/capstone, stands beside Christ, 

rather than being Christ himself (Matt.17:3; Zech.4:14).  

They are used by his symbolic right hand (Zech.4:10; Rev.1:20) (Luke 22:69;  1Cor.15:24,28).

As regards Jesus being both the root and offspring...

We know Jesus is the son or descendant of David, as the "offspring" (Matt.1:1,6).

He is the root of David, because he is the one through whom the "world"/nation of Israel was made and sprang up (John 1:3,10-11).

It is similar to his being the first and last. 

Rev.1:17 continues... Rev.1:18. 

Rev.1:18 tells us that although Jesus died... he lives (Col.1:18; Rev.1:5) as the "first". 

He is the firstborn of the new creation.... and also, the "last" Adam (Col.1:15;  1Cor.15:45). 

Jesus Christ has become the "last Adam", because he is the start of the new creation (Isa.65:17;  2Cor.5:17). He is the last Adam, because this solution is final and everlasting, as Christ becomes the father of all the living (Isa.9:6) and his bride becomes the mother of all the living (Gal.4:26 NKJV)... replacing Eve (Gen.3:20).

Jesus said that he would return upon, the clouds of heaven (Matt.26:64; 24:30; Luke 21:27)(Heb.12:1; John 8:17) (Rev.19:11,14; 17:14). 

He is the one who sends forth his angels/messengers/witnesses 

(Matt.13:41; 24:31; John 1:51; Gen.28:12-14)

So yes... in a way... Jesus' return is manifested through that last "capstone".

TRUMPETS

A QUESTION I RECEIVED:

 I had a question about the trumpets. I’ve always been kinda confused about them. Are these verses all referring to the same trumpet?

“in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.” 1 Cor 15:52

“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16

“He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.” Matthew 24:31

“The seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven saying, The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.” Revelation 11:15

MY REPLY:

First, we learn what a trumpet is, at Isa.58:1 "Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet. Declare to my people their rebellion and to the descendants of Jacob their sins." -- A "trumpet" is a voice that announces a warning to repent/battle alongside God. I suggest re-reading all your verses, replacing "trumpet", with "voice", to gain initial understanding.

1Cor.15:52;  1Thess.4:16; Matt.24:31; Rev.11:15

The last trumpet, is that of the 7th angel. To learn about that, read Rev. ch.10. 

Rev.10

- That chapter is about the 7th angel/star and his trumpet/voice. Verse 7 (Rev.10:7) shows us, that God announces to the seventh angel, the accomplishment (and understanding) of all His mysteries (Rev.1:1; 2:17; 3:12; Prov.9:1; Rev.17:9; 22:6). We see at verse 3 (Rev.10:3) that the voice of that one, "shouts like that of a lion" and when he cries out, that all "seven thunders raise their voices" (Matt.10:20). That one has the voice (trumpet) of Christ (the "lion of Judah") (Rev.5:5-6,10; 3:21; 11:3,5; Prov.19:12; Jer.17:25; Rev.22:16) AND, the voice of all God's prophets (7 trumpets/7 thunders/7 lamps/7 spirits of God/7 pillars) (Rev.10:3; 21:9). God's prophets, speak His words (and Jesus' message) (Matt.10:20;  Eze.3:4; Rev.11:3; 22:6). This one (7th angel), whose voice causes the seven thunders to utter their own voices (Rev.10:3) (his voice contains the message of all the prophets who thunder God's voice -Job 37:5; Ps.29:3; Rev.4:5; Matt.10:20). He is also the 4th living creature, who gives the past prophets (seven lamps/spirits before God's throne - 1Cor.14:32; Rev.5:6; 4:5; Matt.5:15), a voice once again (Rev.15:7; 21:9; 17:1). As you see from the last verses, that 4th living creature, is also one of the 7 angels... the seventh one described in Rev.ch.10.

The last enemy, is death (1Cor.15:26). When that enemy is conquered during Armageddon, the dead rise. 1Thess.4:16  is describing the return of Christ (John 11:25-26). Yet he told us that he is "coming on/with the clouds" (Rev.1:7; Dan.7:13; Matt.16:27; 24:30; Mark 13:26; Luke 21:27;  1Thess.4:17; Rev.11:3,12)... his two witnesses (Rev.11:3,12;  1Thess.4:17; Heb.12:1). 

That 7th angel is in the role of Moses and Elijah ("two witnesses" -Matt.17:3), for obvious reasons [God's people are captive (Luke 21:24; Rev.13:10; Col.2:8) (Moses) and Idolatry reigns (Rev.2:20; 17:2; 13:7-8;  1Cor.6:15) (Elijah)]. This is why the seventh angel, is robed with a cloud (Rev.10:1), because he is 'enrobed' with the identity of Jesus' two witnesses/cloud, and has received that assignment (Isa.61:10; Rev.19:7). 

Those with the seventh angel/two witnesses, are the "two lampstands"/congregations/churches of support (Rev.1:20; Matt.5:15; 11:3-4; 1:20; John 8:17).

Your citation of Matt.24:31 states that "angelS" will be sent out, with one "loud trumpet". That is because, once again, the 7th angel has the voice of all 7 angels (Rev.10:3). At Rev.11:15, again we see that "loud voiceS in heaven" are heard when the 7th angel blows his single trumpet. 

How might this take place in the physical realm? This last prophet (7th) and watchman (4th), opens the scroll of Revelation to the seven congregations (Rev.1:11; Matt.10:23). He is enabled to do so, through the interpretations provided by the voices/trumpets of his preceding prophets, who spoke for God (Gen.40:8; Rom.15:4;  1Cor.10:11;  2Tim.3:16)... once again, giving them voice, through that one's own declaration.

Josh.6: " March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets." 

Seven reminds us of the seven spirits of God, sent out into the earth (Rev.5:6), represented on the head of Christ, as 7 horns (kings), each having an eye (lamp Matt.6:22; Rev.4:5) (spiritual sight/Matt.13:16;  2Cor.4:18;  1John 1:1). Those 7, are sent out by Jesus, into God's land, the 7 congregations (Rev.1:20; Matt.5:15; 10:23). 

 If each day that the priests with the seven trumpets (Rev.8:2), marched around Jericho's wall, represent the testimony each prophet gave, during his own day; then it is worth considering the seventh day. - That last day was different. On the 7th day, the wall was to be encircled, 7 times... repeating the previous days, plus 1, for the last day. It was then on the 7th day, encircled 7 times, while all 7 priests are blowing their trumpets, that the wall collapses. - We see that the 7th prophet differs from the previous 6. The 7th prophet, possesses the message/voices/spirit/bowls, of all seven prophets (Rev.10:7,3; 21:9; 17:1; Zech.3:9). When those bowls are finished being poured out (Rev.16:1; 21:9; 15:1; 11:15),  the end has come! (Rev.10:7)

Acts 1:11 reads; "‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.’ "

Can you see that a comparison is being made, between how Jesus left, to how Jesus returns?

If we can gain understanding about how Jesus returns, we can understand more about how he left.

The Bible tells us about his return. It says, "He is coming on the clouds (of heaven)" 
(Dan.7:13; Matt.24:30; 26:64; 16:27-28; 25:31; Mark 13:26; 14:62; Luke 21:27)...

"with power and great glory" (LINK)

"at the right hand of God" (LINK)

"and all the angels with him" 

(1Thess.3:13; Rev.17:14; Heb.9:28; 1:6; Acts 3:21) (LINK)

At Acts 1:11, we read that the disciples were "looking into the sky". Jesus was taken up into the clouds.

Acts 1:9 reads; "After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight."

The Bible tells us that his return, is similar:

Rev.1:7 reads; ""Look, he is coming with the clouds," and "every eye will see him, even those who pierced him"; and all peoples on earth "will mourn because of him." So shall it be! Amen."(Zech.12:10-11; John19:37)

 Heb.12:1 

That description is comparable to what happens to Jesus' two witnesses (Rev.11:3), at Rev.11:12 >>"Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, ‘Come up here.’ And they went up to heaven in the cloud, while their enemies looked on.".
(Heb.12:1)

There at Rev.11:12, we see the enemies of the two witnesses, observing their inclusion and symbolic ascension, to join the faithful of heaven, and all that this embodiment, entails (Heb.12:1; 1Thess.4:17; Eph.2:6; Col.3:1-2; 2:12; Heb.12:23; Luke 10:16-18,19-20,23-24)

2Thess.1:5-6,7-8,9-10; John3:18; 1Cor.3:12-13,14-15; Heb.12:11; Rev.20:9; 11:3-5; Jer.23:29; Mal.3:18; 1Cor.11:19; 2Pet.3:10-11,12-13.

I don't know what you think Christ's return will look like (Luke 17:20-21)...

but the scriptures tell us that "he is coming on the clouds of heaven" and "all the angels with him".

The "clouds of heaven" who have been given the spirit of Christ's mouth are in part, his "two witnesses" 
(Rev.11:3; Heb.12:1; Luke 21:27; John20:21-22; 2Thess.2:3,8). 

The "angels"(Greek:"messengers") and "holy ones" upon whom Jesus arrives, are those to inherit the kingdom.

Those who battle with Christ against Satanic deception, will share in his power and glory... that of grace and Truth 
(John1:14; Rom.8:17; 1Pet.4:13). 
     

Only those who have kept alert, discerning, and diligent in caring for the Master's interests, will be found faithful 
(Mark 13:36-37; Matt.24:43-44; 25:13; Luke 12:35-37; Rev.3:20; 2:7,17; Luke 21:36) 
and equipped to join him in the battle for truth, when he arrives 
(2Thess.1:7-8,9-10; Rev.19:11,14; 17:14; 2Cor.10:3-5)
