Who is the " Destroyer " (Abaddon/Apollyon)?

A question posted on Facebook:
"I have a question that I asked about, when i used to study with JW . Who is the angel it speaks about in Rev.9:11, Abbadon? They could not give me any straight answer, but some of them said it was Michael and Jesus."

My Reply:
Thankfully, the Bible itself makes clear who each entity in Revelation, is. That book was given to us by Christ, for a reason... "to show his slaves what must soon take place" (Rev.1:1). It's seals would be "opened", when the events it describes, are imminent. We are at some point therefore, meant to understand it's contents. -- When deciphering "Abaddon"/"Apollyon", we first note that the two names given, are said to be in both Hebrew and Greek (Rev.9:11)...
       [(Abaddon = "Destroyer" in Hebrew -- Job 28:22; 31:12; 26:6; Prov. 15:11; 27:20)
        (Apollyon = "Destroyer" in Greek -- 1Cor. 10:10; Heb.11:28)]
...indicating that this identity has the name "Destroyer" throughout the entire Bible record. To learn about the Destroyer, we can turn to Isa.33:1.
It reads;
"Woe to you, Destroyer, you who have not been destroyed! Woe to you, betrayer, you who have not been betrayed! When you stop destroying, you will be destroyed; when you stop betraying, you will be betrayed."
Here we learn that the Destroyer betrays and destroys, and is destined to reap what he has sown. Could this king of the abyss (Rev.9:11) really be Christ? Of him, John 10:10 reads; "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; But I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
Jesus is not a destroyer throughout the Bible. He identified that killer, at John 8:44, as Satan.
Jesus is not destined for destruction (Isa.33:1), but Satan (and "Leviathan"), are (Gen.3:15; Ps.74:14; Isa.27:1; 57:20).
The Bible is rich with interpretative verses for Revelation. I have collected them, accordingly. If you would like to read them, here are some links that address the subjects of the Destroyer, his abyss, and those who emerge from that realm.

These links provide a mere introduction, to the Bible's own interpretation of Revelation ch.9 (Gen.40:8). That interpretation differs drastically from that of the "Watchtower", and other "Watchmen". This Main Blog has a search box and a contact form, for any additional research or assistance you may require. May we all benefit from the knowledge God provides, to those who "keep knocking" (Luke 11:9-10; 8:18).
Knowing the identity of the Destroyer is vital, if we do not want to be one of his victims (1Pet. 5:8; Mark 4:15;  2Cor. 2:11; Rev.12:15,9; 13:4,7,10; Col.2:8; Dan.7:25; Rev.16:13;  1Tim. 4:1; Matt.24:4-5,24-25).
Gaining the truth about Rev.9:11, reveals the darkness of "Watchtower" "light" (Matt.6:23 -- "If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"). All the best to you!
