Excellent question.

The head wound is visible to all, and due to it's healing also being visible; the beast itself is admired and followed. However, the head wound and its healing is misinterpreted by those who follow the beast with admiration. The head wound and it's healing is a counterfeit fulfillment of prophecy, and those who follow the beast do so because they believe that false interpretation.

What most readers of Revelation do not realize, is that there is a head wound and a separate beast wound. The wound to the beast, is not recognized, nor the beast healing from it's own wound.

Rev.13:3 reads:

"One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed".

How does this apply to the organizational Wild Beast?

       {Just let me clarify, that Rev.13 speaks of two Wild Beasts (Rev.13:1,11). The first is 

       from the sea [spiritual Gentiles-Not Anointed "Jews" (Rev.3:9). The second, 

       is from the earth/clay (God's people/anointed/spiritual "Jews" (Rom.2:28,29; Gal.3:29; Isa.64:8]}

These heads are "seven", and are the antithesis (opposite side)...enemies, of the "seven stars" in Jesus' right hand (Rev.1:20).

 Those seven stars are Christ's "seven horns with eyes"/kings (Rev.5:6) and true prophets. "Horns" are "kings" (Rev.17:12).
Each of the "Lamb's" seven "horns" has an "eye". This signifies the lamp that each faithful prophet has (Matt.6:22;  1Cor.12:27,20,21,28-29; Eph.2:20-22) in which they are "burning" their own portion of Holy Spirit, which light they "send out into all the earth" ("oikumene")... to each congregation belonging to God's "field under cultivation"

Those "seven stars" are his "seven angels"/prophet priests -Josh.6:4 /"messengers", who battle for truth with Christ, at Rev.12:7; 17:14 and Rev.19:14,8.

Please keep in mind, that all numbers referring to these groups, are a part of symbolic descriptions.

  So to get back to the "seven heads"; these are the antithesis of the "seven angels" of Christ (evil counter-balance/dichotomy -- false prophets in association with God's people). Those "seven heads" of the first Wild Beast are also a progression/succession of "seven kings" (anointed -Rev.1:5; 5:10) (Rev.17:9,10) who have entered the Covenant with Death...coming under that "woman"/"mother"/covenant, of Rev.17:5; (Gal.4:24; Isa.28:15). You may have noticed a difference between the forces of Christ and those of Satan, in that there are 7 "heads" on Satan's side, but no heads on Christ's side. This is because Christ's faithful "stars"/angels/kings, have only one head...the Christ (Eph.1:22; 5:23; Col.1:18).
They each remain in subjection to Christ as a part of his body (1Cor.12:27,12; Rom.12:5).

Because Satan's forces do include ruling "heads"/kings who have been enticed by power in this world; these also have under them, those Gentile forces whose power they lust after, govern, and exploit for their own interests (Jer.17:5; Hosea 7:11; 4:12; 8:9; Isa.30:1; 31:1; Rev.9:7; Isa.36:6). This alliance will end badly for those prostituting themselves in exchange for the power of the Gentiles

   The faithful do not form this alliance with spiritual "Gentiles" (Organization of non-anointed Elders) (Rev.13:12). 

The faithful confidently depend upon God to be their strength and shield 

(Ps.28:7; 18:2; 13:5; 26:1; 40:3; Rev.14:3).

The "TEN kings" ("HORNS" of the Beast), submit to the alliance between the harlot (false prophet/fallen star Wormwood) and the Sea/Gentile Beast.

These 10 kings are anointed throughout the earth that are a part of the Beast, but they do not rule as the SEVEN heads of the Wild Beast Organization. They are not the top leaders/heads. 

Neither have they received their kingdom with Christ (Rev.3:21; 17:12) because they have not yet proven victorious. It is not until the ten horns move as one with the beast against the final harlot/final head, that they rule with the Beast for "one hour" (Rev.17:7,12-13,16-17) when the beast itself becomes the eighth king (Rev.17:11).

The alliance of unfaithful Chosen ones (heads/harlots) ruling over Gentiles who "trample the Holy Ones", is why you will see that there is a "Gentile" force contained within Satan's dominion

but not under Christ's.

  The "Master" Christ is "Head" of his own "body", and all his forces are faithful anointed/stars/angels/witnesses/warriors, under his direction (2Cor.10:3-5).
These turn to God's spirit for power and strength...

let us get back to the seven heads of the first Gentile Wild Beast.

We are told that one of the heads (from the succession of rulers-Rev.17:10), received a "fatal wound" which was later "healed".

Remember,

this whole empire/design/scheme/machination of Satan which Revelation exposes,
is to fabricate a counterfeit fulfillment of prophecy, in order to mislead the final Chosen Ones

The emergence of the Wild Beast from the "sea" is the emergence of the Gentile, not anointed members of the Organization known as "Jehovah's Witnesses", the backbone of which are elders that are not of the anointed body of Christ. That collective Beast/'mountain-like organization', is ruled by these "seven" unfaithful succession of "heads".

Those "heads" (who were originally chosen to be under the Covenant of Life -Gal.4:26), broke that covenant (Hosea 6:7; Jer.11:10; Dan.11:30,31,32) and so are now also considered as sin-stained, as "uncircumcised" spiritual Gentiles (Amos 9:7 A; Eze.32:29; Acts 7:51,52; Rev.17:6) (Rev.17:3,4; Isa.1:18).

This death stroke to the Beast's head is in the past tense (Rev.13:12), so that this "lying sign" sets the stage for the subsequent scenario, that takes place when the second wild beast of Rev.13:11 emerges, and the events of Rev.13:12,13,14,15,16,17 to follow).

The best explanation of this "death stroke" being fabricated into a counterfeit death of the "two witnesses", can be found in an illustration within the "Revelation Climax" book.
If you have a copy, please turn to page 169, and compare that illustration to Rev.13:3.

The counterfeit fulfillment of the death of the "two witnesses", is expressed in the last sentence of paragraph 23, and according to this publication, occurred in 1919. This corresponds to the "death stroke" that was healed, which in reality, occurred to one of the Wild Beast's governing "heads" (not to the real fulfillment of the death of the "two witnesses", which was actually yet to come later -  2Thess.2:1,2,3).

Another example taken from the organization's own literature, is found in the book, Jehovah's Witnesses in the Divine Purpose.

Inside the cover we see illustrated a table of their historic chronology. Under the years of 1918 and 1919, they themselves ascribe the experience of their ruling head, as a death and revival.

       (NOTE: This is not the same false interpretation of the entire Wild Beast descending into the "Abyss" and then re-emerging. The proposition that the beast ever descends into the abyss, is a false assertion. It is proposed by WT doctrine, and applied to the false fulfillment of prophecy, regarding  the identity of Revelation's sea-beast (Rev.13:1) as the League of Nations going into the abyss, and re-emerging from the abyss as the United Nations. Nowhere in scripture, is the beast said to enter or descend, into the abyss.

  Many similar illustrations within Revelation's parables are assumed to be the same events. But not all are. One must also keep in mind, that each true fulfillment involving Christ's faithful slaves, 

has a counterfeit mirror image, fabricated by Satan...the list of counterfeit events and identities that I have referred to, I have described as each true event's "antithesis" or "dichotomy".

The whole entire "Gentile" Wild Beast emerges from the abyss/"sea", at Rev.13:1 (Rev.17:8 a; Isa.57:20; Jude 1:13; Rev.11:7  -beast from abyss/sea Rev.11:7). 

The Beast's constituents (locust-scorpions), are also seen emerging from the abyss, at Rev.9:1,2,3.

Part Two:

The entire Beast, received a sword/death stroke that healed, mentioned at Rev.13:12,14; 17:8. That wound should not be equated with the wound to one of its 7 heads, at Rev.13:3.

The entire Gentile beast belonging to Satan's realm (Luke 4:5,6;  1John 5:19), was defeated, conquered and slain by means of the sword (Heb.4:12), by the obedient slaves of Christ who conquered the Gentile powers of Satan (1John 5:4; James 4:4;  1John 2:13-14,15-16,17; Luke 10:18-19;  1John 5:14,19).

Although the 144,000 fully recognized the realm of Satan's world and were never overcome by the deceptive powers of his abyss/Hades (Matt.16:18); ...once Satan is released from the abyss (Rev.20:7,8,9; Luke 21:20,22; Mark 13:14; Luke 21:24; Rev.11:2)... he wages war with the remaining ones of the "Woman's" seed/offspring, and conquers them (Rev.13:7,10; Luke 21:24; Col.2:8).

The Gentile power of Satan's world of darkness, and the power of Satan's abyss of deception and its agents, had been slain by Jesus and the 144000. Through Satan's release from the abyss and his alliance with a wicked steward/fallen star/false prophet; that Gentile power over God's people, Lives Again!

The remnant has been mislead into believing they are acting in obedience to God, while obedient to the Gentile Beast... and that while under the domination of this Beast (supposedly directed by God's spirit -Rev.13:11,15), they suppose that they have peace and security with God

When all under this dominion, finally do "see" (perceive) the Beast's true identity, nature, and existence of the 
persecuting Wild Beast of Satan;
they will be "astonished!" (Rev.17:8YLT; Hab.1:5).

After the faithful awaken and take up spiritual arms against the forces that had held them captive; they expose and counteract (Gal.4:16; Eph.5:11; 4:25) Satan's flood of lies (John 8:44; Rev.12:17,15; 17:14; 16:13,14,15,16;  1Tim.4:1) that are being propagated through the false prophet and its beast-like army (Rev.13:13,14,15; 19:20) (Rev.8:10,11; 9:1,2,3; Eze.2:6; Joel 1:6,4; 2:10; Matt.24:29,24,25,21; Joel 2:2ESV ; Rev.20:7,8,9; 16:13,14,15,16; 17:14;  2Cor.10:3,4,5; 6:7). To clarify...
the death-stroke to one of the early governing heads (Rev.13:3; 17:9,10), is not the same as the sword stroke to the entire beast (Rev.13:12). Both the head and the beast undergo a revival. 

*All the earth sees the healed blow to the early "head", and even "marvels with admiration" at it (Rev.13:3), resulting in their following with admiration, the beast bearing that head.

*All the earth does not perceive the death of the Beast in the lives of the previous faithful 144,000. They do not even recognize the existence or revival of that power of Satan's whole Wild Beast/Gentile army, as it takes over and tramples God's Holy place during the Great Tribulation (Rev.17:8YLT) (1Pet.2:5;  2Thess.2:4; Matt.24:15,16; Dan.11:31,32).

The entire inhabited land of God assume that the Beast and its idolatrous Image is not present, because of their assumption that they too, have faithfully conquered the world. They assume that they are free of the dominion of the beast... the beast "was". 

How?
God's people make two wrong assumptions about Satan's world dominion, resulting in their inability to perceive that dominion, over them:
  ***They believe that their own limited concept of "Christian neutrality", is preventing their subjection to Satan's "Gentile" powers.
  ***Anointed are falsely declared to be protected, (have "peace and security") within the purported, "spiritual paradise".

Yet a Gentile fortress is exactly what God's people have subjected themselves to, 
through the tyrannical, persecuting Beast, and it's Image of divinity/being "god-breathed"/"spirit-directed" (Rev.13:15; John 20:22) which is in reality, a product of Satan's power and dominion ("sea") (Rev.13:1,2,4;  2Thess.2:9; Rev.9:11; Isa.57:20) after his release from the abyss. The "earth" does not recognize the return of persecution toward God's anointed, due to it's newfound disguise...

(it has been cloaked with divinity/spirit by the false prophet -Rev.13:15,14; 19:20; John 20:22); 

nor do they recognize the Beast's true source, birth place, and emergence from the Abyss of darkness and Death

or it's power and use by Satan; to persecute, ensnare, hold captive, and "kill"...

and why this is separate from the past defeat of the "Gentile" Wild Beast dominion as a whole.

The sea-beast was previously defeated and made powerless by Christ and the 144000. That victory is not initially shared by the remnant, while they are going through the great tribulation. During that time, the previous defeat of the beast is reversed when it conquers the remnant (Rev.13:7,10; Luke 21:24). The beasts' true identity as Satan's tool of persecution goes unrecognized by the saints who are under its dominion, due to the false prophet dubbing it as God's organization.

The sea-beast's return to power during Satan's spiritual war against the remnant, goes unrecognized by the remnant of anointed. (Rev.12:17; Rev.13:1NIV)

This is why, as unlikely as it would seem according to human reasoning...

(Rev.13:1,3 A) and (Rev.13:14 D; Rev.17:8YLT; Rev.17:11), are not referring to the same events, wounds, or revival.

Though the head wound and healing event was visible to all "Jehovah's Witnesses"; no one recognized its genuine interpretation or meaning as being a head of the Beast of Rev.13:1. We were taught that it was the death and revival of the two witnesses of Rev.11:3,7,11... Satan's counterfeit interpretation of prophecy.

Even though you ask about the "wound that the (entire) beast suffered" that will become "visible to all";

I hope you can now see that healing of the wound the entire beast suffered 

(by it's emergence from the abyss, and uncontested appointment to dominate and defile God's Temple), 
that revival of power was not initially recognized (Rev.17:8YLT).

The healed wound to the head, was recognized...

       --- When the interpretation of Rev.14:15 (according to the Greek - "Ripe" is "dried out") is compared to WT's interpretation and depiction in the Revelation Climax book (page 213); WT error can be discerned, due to their translating the "ripe" of Rev.14:15 as juicy grapes... rather than dried out ripe wheat, which is the harvest of faithful anointed.

When they teach their interpretation of Rev.14:18, they depict that vine as withered, and as representing the world outside of "Jehovah's Witnesses". Yet the Greek word for "ripe" at Rev.14:18,19,20, IS juicy and plump (Joel 3:13). Watchtower changes what the scriptures tell us, in order to favor their own harvest and supportive followers. 

The harvest of the vine of the earth, is of plump, rotten fruit of the unfaithful prophets (Matt.7:15,16,17,18,19; Rev.20:10; Matt.25:41; Rev.14:18). Their branches were meant to stay attached to Christ (John 15:5,6; Col.2:19), but they left him for a new master 

(Jer.2:21; Deut.32:32,33;  2Cor.11:2,3; Rev.8:10,11; 9:1,11 (both names mean "Destroyer"); Isa.33:1).

According to the Greek... the fruit of the plump vine is condemned to the wine-press of God's anger (John 15:4; Rev.14:19; Jer.2:21; 25:30) because the branches have failed to remain in union with Christ (John 15:5,6; Col.2:19; Jer.2:21; Deut.32:32,33,15,16,22; Rev.14:19; Joel 3:13).

While it's true that the entire organization known as "Jehovah's Witnesses" and the Chosen Ones within it, marveled at the release of it's governing "head" from prison in 1919 (and still do); this is not true of the entire world which does not "marvel" in unity at their political governments, nor at the "United Nations"!

As a side point...the seven kings/horns of Christ,

and the seven kings/heads of the Wild Beast,

is what Christ was referring to at Matt.24:7.

This is a war between the "wheat" and "weeds"...
truth and lies...

the faithful and unfaithful Chosen Ones.
This is the essence of the final battle of Armageddon,
and the culmination of the war (Gen.3:15; Rev.12:7; 16:14,15,16; 17:14; 19:11,14,19).
